OUR DIVISIONS

COED RECREATIONAL

This division is geared specifically to new players or those with limited flag experience.  The focus is on having fun while learning new skills and an understanding of the game itself.  Scores are kept and there are winners and losers, however it is not as “intense” as some the competitive division.
Recreational age groups include U10, U12 and U14

COED COMPETITIVE

This division is for experienced players who have had multiple years of flag football experience, and generally have a very good understanding of the game.  The competitive aspect is a little more important to participants and the goal is to provide meaningful competition while advancing their skill development and knowledge of strategy etc.
Competitive age groups include U12, U14 and Varsity (grade 9-12 players)

GIRLS BLUE

This division is for girls born in 2014-2016 who are learning the sport, possibly for the first time. The focus is on creating an environment for them to learn the game, new skills and realize the benefits of team play.

GIRLS GOLD

This division is the next age group up for girls born in 2011-2013.  Many of these girls are also new to the sport, while others may have experience from playing a couple of seasons.  Even new players are able to learn the game and essential skills more quickly at this age.

GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

This division is for girls attending high school, but does not involve high schools directly.  Many schools will enter teams, but all girls are welcome to register as an individual, with a small group, or as part of a team being formed by a parent, coach or sometimes a teacher from a school.  These athletes are experienced athletes from other sports, whether with their school or community programs.

To participate you do not have to attend a school that has a football program or entering a team from the school.

GAME FORMAT

All divisions are 5 vs 5, meaning that there are 5 players on the field from each team at any given time. Each teams requires a minimum roster of 10 players and a maximum of 12 players.

PLAYERS REGISTRATION OPTIONS

Players can register as an individual player, or free agent, to be assigned to a team usually with several other free agent players.

Groups of friends with fewer than 5 players can register as a small group to ensure they are placed on the same team.  All members of a small group must have a GROUP CODE after the first of the friends registers and creates the group.  The Group Code is then shared with the others to use when they register to “join” the group.

Players can also register as a member of a specific team having a coach and a predetermined roster.  If joining a specific team, the coach must register the team before the players register and provide all players with the Team Code which will add players to the roster automatically as they register.

GAME TIMES

Coed – Saturday Divisions

Games start at 1:30pm starting with the youngest age group (U10 Division) and progress through the age divisions in order each hour with the High School division finishing up by 9:30pm.  We cannot confirm exact game times until registration closes as some age divisions span more than one hour in order to schedule games for that division.

Girls League – Sunday Divisions

Games are played from 2:30pm to 6:30pm starting with the BLUE division, then the GOLD division, finishing up with the High School Girls Division.  Week One will be skills and practice time only from 6:30-8:30pm

WE NEED YOU TO HELP COACH!

As flag football continues to grow is leaps and bounds, so does the need for parents to help coach this truly fun sport that so many children are experiencing.  Almost 40% of each season’s players consist of those new to flag football, which requires a large number of coaches also new to the sport.

Teams that are formed from individuals or “free agents” must have parents helping with this as we cannot provide caches for all of the new teams we see joining our leagues every year.

Coaching flag football does not require any football experience until athletes reach the older more competitive ages.  Many parents (both moms and dads) step up every year to help coach their child’s team even though they may not have coached a team sport before. Ideally at least two parents will volunteer to “co-coach” and share the fun.

We provide all the tools needed to get new coaches and their team playing and having fun. The requirements are quite simple and takes little time to complete. The only other requirement for coaches is to enjoy having fun with a group of young athletes!

If you want to have some fun with your child (and others) along with one or two other parents who are willing to help, please indicate this on your child’s registration form.  We will make sure you’re ready for all the excitement you’ll experience this season!

OTHER INFORMATION

How many players do we need for a team?

Minimum of 10 registered players and a maximum of 12 registered players

Can I register even if I don’t have a team?

Yes, you can register as an individual to be assigned to a team that do not have a full roster.  In some cases teams are made up of individuals to create a “free agent” team.  You can also create a small group for friends to be assigned to the same team.

Where do teams practice?

Practices are the responsibility of each team to find a facility if desired.   Unlike our outdoor seasons, most teams will not practice during the fall and winter seasons due to the difficulty in finding a gym or other facility to practice.  However, this does not hinder the children’s ability to learn the game, some new skills and have a lot of fun!

The indoor seasons are intended as recreational leagues to provide physical activity through the winter months.  We encourage participation and fun more than competition, especially at the younger ages. The rules of the game can be learned very quickly, and even teams that are unable to practice between games will have a lot of excitement and fun by participating!

What do I need to provide?

– Good indoor running shoes or cleats (soccer or football) and lots of energy!
– Solid colored shorts without pockets.  (These can be purchased during registration process)  If you are lucky enough   to find shorts without pockets elsewhere, be sure that they are a solid colour (with no stripes).
