get coaching!
Every season we require several parents to volunteer to help coach their child’s team. Coaches must complete the following steps to receive their ID card in their first year as a flag coach:
-
- Register as a coach
- Complete the requirements listed below (all training is free)
- Submit a photo for your ID
- Attend a New Flag Coach session
I do not have an NCCP number
Every coach in Canada requires an NCCP# to access courses and record all training received. Before creating a new NCCP# be sure that you don’t already have one. If you have coached previously (in any sport) that required training you likely have one whether you know it or not. Creating duplicate accounts causes problems when confirming a coach’s credentials and eligibility to coach.
You can create an NCCP # by going to the locker and clicking “Don’t have an NCCP#? Create one now!” Follow the prompts and provide your personal information. Once completed, note your NCCP # as it will be used for as long as you coach any sport. LINK TO THE LOCKER
REQUIRED TRAINING
RESPECT IN SPORT (Link)
Free 2.5 hour course that can be completed at the user’s own pace.
MAKING HEAD WAY IN SPORT (Link)
Free 45 minute course on understanding concussions, general safety and ways to reduce the risk of injury.
UNDERSTANDING THE RULE OF TWO (Link)
This is one of three pillars of the Responsible Coaching Movement in Canada, along with background screening and ethics training.
BACKGROUND CHECK (Link)
All coaches must complete a background check every 3 years. Our flag coaches can have their screening completed at no cost to them through our online service through Sterling BackCheck.
Coaches that completed a check through their employer, for another sport or another activity should contact our office in order to confirm the date and result. In the two years when a new check is not required coaches must submit a completed Screening Renewal Form(link).
ATTEND PRESEASON NEW COACH MEETING
Prior to the season start coaches will need to attend a short preseason meeting to review game play, new rules or updates, as well as discuss flag in general. Coaches will be advised of meeting details by April 1st.
