FIRST YEAR FLAG COACHES

I do not have an NCCP number

Every coach in Canada requires an NCCP to track courses and training received. Before creating a new NCCP # be sure that you don’t already have one. If you have coached previously (any sport) that required training you likely have one whether you know it or not. Creating duplicate accounts causes problems when confirming a coach’s credentials and eligibility to coach.

You can create an NCCP # by going to the locker and clicking “Don’t have an NCCP#?  Create one now!”  Follow the prompts and provide your personal information. Once completed, note your NCCP # as it will be used for as long as you coach any sport.  LINK TO THE LOCKER

Each season we have a few parents that volunteer at the last minute to help coach their child’s team. While all of the following are important, ALL coaches must have these 4 steps completed to receive their ID card in their first year as a flag coach:

    1. Register as a coach
    2. Have a current Background check and submit a Declaration Form
    3. Submit a photo for your ID
    4. At least start Respect in Sport

RESPECT IN SPORT  (Go to site)

The Respect in Sport Program assists coaches, referees, trainers and managers with identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The online course curriculum is divided into six modules, which only take 2.5 hours, and can be completed at the user’s own pace.  Free for Manitoba Coaches.

MAKING HEAD WAY IN SPORT
(Go to Training)

Free one-hour course on understanding concussions, safety and ways to reduce the risk of injury.  You must log into the Locker with your NCCP number to access the course.

UNDERSTANDING THE RULE OF TWO
(Go to training)

This is a free 20 minute course.  The goal of the Rule of Two is to ensure all interactions and communications are open, observable and justifiable. It is one of three pillars of the Responsible Coaching Movement, along with background screening and ethics training

COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK

This should include a Criminal Record check, and where available, a Child Abuse Registry and/or Vulnerable Sector check completed within the past three years– Coaches that have this requirement already through their employment or through another organization may complete and submit an annual declaration form to confirm their background check is clear and less than 3 years old.

Contact your home program for instructions on obtaining your background check.  For those with a current background check, please download the Annual Declaration, complete and provide to your home program.  (Flag coaches must submit this form to Football Manitoba by emailing technical@footballmanitoba.com).

Download Annual Declaration Form (for those with a recent background check)

Complete an online Background Check (Sterling Backcheck)

ATTEND PRESEASON COACH MEETING

Prior to the season start coaches will need to attend a short preseason meeting to review game play, new rules or updates, as well as discuss flag in general.  Coaches will be advised of meeting details by April 1st.
